Taran Hourie Killam was born on April 1, 1982, in Culver City, California, but he grew up in Big Bear Lake, California. Big Bear Lake is a small mountain town located in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. It is known for its beautiful scenery, outdoor activities, and small-town charm.

Killam first gained attention for his brief stint on the Fox comedy series MADtv during its seventh season between 2001 and 2002. He then went on to become a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 2010 to 2016. During his time on SNL, Killam was known for his impressions of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey, and Donald Trump. He also wrote and produced several sketches for the show.

In addition to his television work, Killam has also appeared in several films. He starred as a teen pop star in the 2004 Disney Channel Original Movie Stuck in the Suburbs. He also had roles in films such as 12 Years a Slave, The Heat, and The Heat 2.Killam is also known for his stage work. He performed the role of King George III in the Broadway production of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, ending his run on the evening of April 13, 2017.
