Upcoming Prescribed Burn and Chipping Events in Mountain Communities



The Mountain Top Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service—San Bernardino National Forest will conduct a prescribed burn near Twin Peaks through Tuesday, April 30. Firefighters are working in the forest west of Grandview Elementary School in Twin Peaks. Once this area is completed, work will move north on the Grass Valley project.This prescribed burn, a crucial part of the Grass Valley Project, is a joint effort by the Forest Service, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and CAL FIRE. This preventative maintenance project helps with future community defense, and maintains the health of the forest. While some areas may see visible smoke, firefighters will be closely monitoring the burn at all times.San Bernardino County Fire is committed to public safety and fire prevention. As part of this ongoing commitment, they are offering a free chipping service for mountain residents. This convenient program is designed to assist homeowners in creating defensible space around their homes. Cut brush and branches will be accepted for chipping at any of the upcoming events in over a dozen mountain communities.During the first two weeks of May, County Fire personnel will offer chipping service in Mountain Home Village, Angelus Oaks, and Forest Falls.
